THe rundown
This year (2012) is my second year of taking an Algebra 1 class. Unfortunately, due to the fact that I get very nervous when taking tests, I was placed into Algebra 1. A couple of months later, it became apparent that this was mostly review. It was decided that I would take both Algebra 1, and an online geometry class in order to receive the necessary credits to graduate. The way it works is that most of the time is that I do my online class every day, but when a topic arises in Algebra that I need some refreshing on, then I sit in. Everything is currently going great in both classes, but due to the fact that I don't have a lot of work for Algebra, I will show you some of my geometry tests.
The bad
In geometry, the one thing that gest me down EVERY time is proofs. In mathmatics, a proof is a demonstration that if some fundamental statements are assumed to be true, then some mathematical stement is necessarily true. Proofs are obtained from deductive reasoning, and my mind thinks in formulas and equations, so proofs (like the one below), no matter how easy or hard they are, always get me. I've currently asked Cathy Egan (the geometry teacher) to supply me with some practice worksheets in order to improve these skills.
The good
Other than proofs (see above), everything in geometry makes complete and total sense to me. I also enjoy using my algebraic skills to solve geometric problems, like the one below.
The Mistakes
During my second semester of taking this online course, it became apparent to me that some of the answers I was getting wrong on tests should have been right. It turns out that the website had mis-linked the answers. In order to overcome this major problem, I had to send multiple emails of evidence to my online course telling them about the problems. After they made all of the necessary fixes, I had to go back through and re-do all of the tests I had previously taken. All I have to say for this is that I know the material very well now and am highly un-likely to forget it in a couple of years.
