Food project visual Piece
In Digital Arts, we created a visual art piece (using any medium we desired) to go along with our individual projects in our Humanities class. Because my essay was focused on food addition and how it effects our bodies, I choose to create a sculpture with junk food. To create this piece of art, I first made a packing-tape mold of a fellow classmate. Then, I reinforced the tape and dressed it up with street cloths. Next, I hot-glued various pieces of candy and sweets to the torso, head and arms; I also filled the head with sugary cereal. The candy was placed on the body in a pattern to crate a sweet smelling texture and balance. This allows the on-looker's stare to move from the torso to the head in a smooth motion and creates a definite organic shape for the body and a sense of unity. Also, I only used colored candies of contrasting color to create the mis-proportioned indention in the sculpture's side is there to represent how all the junk food we are eating is literally "crushing" our bodies. The most changing part of this project was to find a way to stand the sculpture on two feet. After many failed attempts (using string) I ended up utilizing an easel to support the weight of all the junk food. If I was to re-do this project, I would try to use a different base mold other than tape (which is very weak and flimsy) like clay or plaster. All in all I feel that this piece of art very well personifies my Humanities essay and gives it life... literally.
