Globalization
The world around us is wrapped and interconnected by the growth of technology and open markets. This is described as globalization. For the purposes of this project, we choose a specific topic that relates to globalization and research it. After gathering enough information about our chosen subject, we proceeded to write an Op-Ed piece and then drew a political cartoon representing our opinion that we created based on our research.
At the end of this project, I am undecided as to whether globalization is a positive or negative influence upon the world. Globalization allows for societies to become interconnected, preventing war and promoting scientific advancement through freedom of communication. However, the more interconnected societies become, individual cultures morph and vanish away into oblivion, lost forever.
For the political cartoon aspect of this experience, I learned the value of perseverance. In the beginning, I had roughly sketched out a general idea of what I wanted the final to come across as. I then sloppily drew out another draft. Having never been an experienced artist, I didn’t want anything to do with my cartoon. However, I still wanted to create beautiful work. After ignoring it for a few days, I plunged back in with a fresh mind. After viewing some cartoon drawing videos -along with the assistance of my peers-I was able to focus and create a final product that I am proud of. I refined a sloppily drawn chair into a symbol for America, I also deepened my symbolism by making the television represent corporations and technology.
After completing my Op-Ed, I have deeply improved my refinement skills. In an Op-Ed piece, the paragraphs are shorter and more direct and also attend to interact with the reader through figurative language along the side with solid evidence, proving quite a creative challenge. With every draft I made, I asked for critique from any and everyone around me. I also consulted online resources. In the end, I created 14 drafts of my paper. I can apply this skill to future writing assignments by making sure I review my work before turning it in, allowing me to always create polished pieces of literary excellence.
